International Women's Day has a different theme every year. It also focuses on and talks about different problems every year. We also bring more attention to the problems that need to be solved in order to achieve gender equality by celebrating International Women's Day.

This includes equal rights for men and women in neighborhoods, friendships, and the job. So, what themes have been talked about in the past, and what are they this year? Let's find out more!

International Women's Day Over the Years

It was the same theme for International Women's Day in 2023 as it was the year before: "DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality." This theme talked about the problem that women often face with the gender gap, especially women are underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education and careers, which makes it harder for them to help create and run technology.

The theme for International Women's Day 2017 was "Break the Bias." The idea behind this theme was to inspire great women all over the world to break down all the biases and gender norms that put women down and make them feel less important.

These are the two main ideas that International Women's Day (IWD) has brought up in the last two years. The themes that are talked about are problems that people face every day. What do you think the theme of 2024's International Women's Day should be?

Gloria Steinem, a famous feminist, writer, and activist, once said, "The fight for women's equality is not owned by any one feminist or organization advocating alone, but by the efforts of all who care about human rights." Here is the theme for International Women's Day 2024.

Because of this, the idea of International Women's Day 2024 is to get everyone to understand and value how women are different from men. When women are encouraged to take part, they feel like they own something, are important to other groups, and are given power.

The theme for International Women's Day 2024 is "Inspire Inclusion," marked by the signature purple color, and this year's iconic symbol is the hand-formed heart representing love, reflecting the essence of inclusion.

How International Women's Day came to be

international women's day

International Women's Day (IWD) is a time to honor the progress made by women around the world and to remember how hard it has been to achieve gender equality. In the early 1900s, women began to fight for their rights, especially the right to work, go to school, and vote. This was the start of the history of IWD.

In 1908, a lot of women in New York, USA, took to the streets to demand better working conditions, the right to vote, and fair pay. The next year, on February 28, 1909, the Socialist Party of America made it the first Women's Day in the United States. Other countries soon followed suit.

The women's movement got a lot of support from the part women played in World War I and the Russian Revolution of 1917. Women in Russia started protesting on March 8, based on the Gregorian date. This was one of the events that led to the Russian Revolution.

Russia finally gave women the right to vote after the revolution, and March 8th was made a national holiday to honor women. Since then, International Women's Day has grown into a worldwide event that celebrates women's accomplishments while still calling attention to wrongs and fighting for equal rights for men and women.

The theme of International Women's Day changes every year, but it always has something to do with supporting women and girls, ending violence against women, or addressing gender inequality in the workplace.
